Mrs. Rashida Begum joined the LHCB Women’s Savings Group in her village and began contributing a small amount to the group's savings fund. After a time Rashida took a loan of Tk 5000 ($80) from the group fund to buy new materials for her son's tailoring business. This money helped her son’s business get off to a good start and the family monthly income grew to Tk 1000 ($16). From the monthly profits, Rashida repaid her family’s loan to the savings group.

A one month old baby girl named Hawa came to the LHCB Hospital and was diagnosed with third degree malnutrition, severe dehydration and no urine output. Since birth, she was fed only rice dust and sugar because her mother was also sick and severely anemic. Her father is a day laborer, and the family lives hand to mouth. Hawa is the second child for the family. Both Hawa and her mother were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
